[edit] Goals

In the case of the project creator, it would be about removing barriers for entry and helping reach a critical mass to preserve the history of fandom activities on Geocities, other sites that may close down and and other sites have played an important role in fandom on a microlevel.

The extension would work a bit like stumbleupon only it would involve putting the information users collect on to a wiki article. It would work like this:

  1. Administrators on the wiki collect a list (or lists) of links and put them on to a wiki page. The list would need to be on name space where only a bot (the extension) and administrators can edit.
  2. Logged in users who have verified e-mail addresses install the extension. (This is to protect against vandalism and act as a quality control.)
  3. They click on it and view a site.
  4. The extension pops up with a form based on the link type if there is more than one list. (For examples, you may have a list for businesses, another for mailing lists, another for fansites on Geocities.)
  5. The form automatically detects the url and the page title.
  6. The user fills in as many of the fields on the form as possible.
  7. The user hits submit.
  8. The information that the user submitted shows up as a new page on the wiki. The page was created by them.
  9. The url from the page is removed from the list by the bot on the wiki or is moved to a section that indicates the page about the url has been created.
  10. The user can then do another page.
